THE 3rd INSTAGRAM DRAW PRIZE AWARD
As you may already know, last 5 June, on the occasion of World Environment Day, the third contest was held on our Instagram account (@conrde_madrid).
The theme of the draw revolved around food waste, so those who wished to take part had to come up with an idea or advice on how to avoid or reduce food waste at home. Some of the most popular proposals were the following:
- Opting to use leftover food for cooking.
- Home composting.
- Freezing any products that are not going to be eaten but which are still perfectly edible.
- Planning your weekly shopping to only buy those products you are going to use.
- Cooking just the right amounts.
- Using the brown bin to dispose of unusable food waste.
These ideas and tips help to prevent or reduce food waste, which averages 20% of the food purchased by a household. To address this, one of the targets of Goal 12 (“Responsible production and consumption”) of the Sustainable Development Goals points to the need to “cut in half per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030”.
Participants were entered into a draw for a smart home garden, so they can grow different types of plant, such as parsley or garlic at home. The contest prize was awarded to the winner on Friday, 14 July, at a ceremony at the General Department of Waste and Cleaning services, attended by Victor Manuel Sarabia, Director General of Cleaning and Waste Services of Madrid City Council.
Many thanks to all of you very much for your participation and commitment to the fight against food waste. If you took part in the contest, you can find the list of winners and substitutes by clicking on the link in the BIO of our Instagram account (@conrde_madrid).
