Reduce waste production.

Consider the importance of redesigning products with sustainability criteria, both in relation to materials and the manufacturing process.

Separate to Recover and Recycle the materials already used and reintroduce them as raw materials in the production processes.

Renew and Repair damaged items or items that you no longer use, before buying new ones.

Reuse objects by finding new uses for them or, if you no longer need them, donate or exchange them so that they can be used by other people.

Keep the city clean and respect the rules of coexistence.

We need to rethink the way we consume and adopt new habits that reduce consumption and produce less waste.

Only buy what you need.

Say goodbye to bottled water! Use reusable bottles.

When shopping, choose products in bulk or those with the least packaging and try to avoid any with packaging made of different materials, as this causes more waste and makes it difficult to separate them.

Bring your own bags (cloth, raffia, etc.). and reusable containers when shopping (plastic or glass containers or lunchboxes)

Avoid all disposable products. Use cloth napkins or handkerchiefs instead of paper ones, reusable plastic containers instead of aluminium foil, etc.

Take care of and extend the life of your items to avoid purchasing new ones.

If you need a certain product on a particular occasion, you can find it in second-hand markets or rent it instead of buying it.

And when you don't want to use them anymore, donate or exchange them. You can do this at any of the city's “Puntos Limpios” that use the ReMAD system.

As consumers we can choose those products that contemplate ecodesign. They are more sustainable products, which minimize environmental impacts and waste production throughout their entire life cycle, from the design phase to production, use and disposal.

If you separate the different types of waste correctly, a larger amount of materials can be recovered, which, after processing, can be used as new raw materials in production processes.

Recycling waste reduces our consumption of natural raw materials and the energy required to extract them.

If you have an old item you no longer use because it is outdated, try to update and renew it. You may find a way to reuse it for the purpose it was made for, or you may be able to put it to new use.

Before throwing a product out, check to see if it can be repaired; maybe just changing a part will make it as good as new.

Before buying a product, ask for more information about its durability and repairability, so that you can compare and choose the most durable or easily repairable products.

· Use leftovers to prepare new dishes, thus reducing food waste and the amount of organic waste you produce. You can find some ideas here.
Reuse plastic containers and bags as many times as possible.
· Use bottles and jars of products you’ve already finished and refill them or use them to store other products such as biscuits, pasta, rice, etc.
· Books, clothes and other items can be reused by family and friends or at second-hand markets or exchange platforms.
· I don't want it, but...maybe someone else does. ReMAD is an initiative by Madrid City Council for exchanging objects at the permanent “Puntos Limpios” in Madrid. In order for the waste separation system to be successful and keep the city clean and sustainable, it is necessary to respect the rules on social relations and the regulations set out in the current municipal waste ordinance .
