THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM, A GREAT SUCCESS!
In addition to our activities regarding waste separation and recycling using the brown bin, in the 2022-2023 school year we carried out new activities that focussed on the theme of the campaign: the cleanliness of the city, the circular economy, or the adoption of new, more sustainable habits, among others, all of which aim to enhance social harmony.
What do the program activities consist of?
Based on sessions led by the campaign’s educational team, the schoolchildren then work on different topics related to waste separation and management and keeping the city clean. These sessions last between 45 and 50 minutes and can be carried out in person at the centres themselves or remotely.
Now that the course has ended, we are happy to say that both programs have been a great success! 123 schools from the 21 districts of the city took part in them, with almost 1,000 sessions attended by 20,000 participants from early childhood, primary, secondary education, vocational training and teaching staff.

After a full school year, we have been involved at every level and stage of education, including vocational training and even teacher training. Statistically speaking, the school stage which saw the largest number of activities is at Primary schools, although both students and teachers from all the school years warmly welcomed us and took a great interest.
This confirms that environmental education needs to continue being used as a fundamental tool for raising awareness, sensitizing and educating the public in values, especially the younger generations. By teaching environmental education, we can spend just a few hours with the students and still influence them throughout the course.
How?
- By arousing their curiosity with eye-catching elements such as our friend “Don Simplón” for waste separation.
- By teaching them to learn on their own. To achieve this, we provide them with the necessary tools such as videos, scripts or card games, so that by carrying out these activities they can think and learn on their own.
- By conveying values to them by demonstrating the importance of separating waste and keeping the city clean, so they can take care of the environment and enjoy a more pleasant life in their respective neighbourhoods.
- By letting them express themselves and listening to them. For any significant learning to take place, they themselves must put into practice what they’ve learnt and be able to answer any doubts that may arise.
